The latest Pokémon Presentation has revealed more exciting information surrounding the new Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet games. Most notably the announcement revealed the Paldea Region and previews a new “Terastal” mechanic.
Terastal is a brand new battle-mechanic and offers Pokémon two significant advantages:
This new mechanic allows you to:
- Boost Attack Moves
- Change Pokémon Type
When a Pokémon is “Terastalised” they appear to be crystalised and their Pokémon type changes. One example offered in the presentation suggest Eevee can become a Grass or Water type.
However, it’s slightly more complicated than it sounds, because some Eevee could remain “Normal”, whilst another Eevee takes on rarer types. This means player will have to explore the Paldea Region if they want specific Pokémon with specific Terastal type changes.
To add to the excitement there are also special Tera-types that only select Pokémon can do.
Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet will also introduce in-game Raid Battles that feature these crystallised and “Terastalised” Pokémon. Each Terra-Raid Battle can be attempted with up-to 3 trainers, who all battle at their own pace – not needing to wait for other trainers to take turns.
Once a Pokémon is no-longer using the “Terastal ability Trainers can catch these Pokémon.
