Although typical video games sales statistics for Nintendo are delayed this week, some new information has surfaced across social media revealing a very successful debut of Nintendo Switch Sports in Japan over release.
Preliminary data shows that Nintendo Switch Sports, which released April 29th 2022, sold an impressive 190,000 copies in Japan alone.
This figure doesn’t include international units and it’s unclear whether eShop figures have been included for digital downloads, but it’s still more than enough to make Nintendo Switch Sports the best selling Nintendo Switch game in Japan last week.
Comparing this figure to the first week sales of Wii Sports Resort (the successor to Wii Sports) which sold 354,000 in the first week in Japan back in 2009, (as physical sales only), it’s likely as expected.
Japan Famitsu – “Nintendo Switch Sports” took the top spot with 190,000 units sold, just short of the 354,000 first-week sales of “Wii Sports Resort”, which was released in June 2009. Switch in 5yrs has sold 24.6m and passing 3DS which took 10yrs to hit the same number,DS 32.86m

So if we consider eShop sales are yet to be finalised and added, Nintendo Switch Sports may have surpassed this figure too. Which is beyond impressive!
