The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was a refreshing take on one of Nintendo’s classic franchises, and despite not being the most recent Zelda game, still remains the most purchased, cementing itself well and truly in the Top 25, after Nintendo Revealed Top 25 Nintendo Switch Games. As of May 2022.

As one of the final releases on the Nintendo Wii-U console and a launch title on the Nintendo Switch, it’s hard to believe The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is now over 5 years old.
Despite its age its still breaking records, similar to recent store where Nintendo Switch Sports Hits Top Spot with 200,000 Sales in Japan, proving Zelda is more popular than ever.

This week, Nintendo published their “end of year” Fiscal Report, highlighting the latest Sale Figures, giving fans of Zelda and other Nintendo franchises an idea of how successful their games have been.
Nintendo’s Sale Figures confirm The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has now sold 28.24 million units, as of March 31 2022.

Although 1.69 million copies were purchased for the Wii-U, the remaining still places Breath of the Wild at number 4 in Nintendo’s Top 25 Best Selling Switch Games of all time.

This figure is an incredible milestone for Nintendo and the Zelda franchise, as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has now outsold more than every other 3D Zelda game, combined!

It’s important to note this doesn’t include remakes and remasters, but only original 3D Zelda releases!

Even so, with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sitting at number 4, just behind Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, it’s pretty impressive to say the least!

Seeing modern open-world games such as Pokemon Legends Arceus and Breath of the Wild succeed, as well as setting new records, they will definitely have an impact on the direction of future games.
