Pokémon Go expansion Details:

Back in February A Pokémon Go Expansion for the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) was unveiled for the first time.
It has since been given a scheduled release of July 01st.

Like similar expansions and mini subsets, the Pokémon Go expansion Booster Packs won’t be sold separately, but instead come as part of Special collections such as Pokémon Go Mini Tins and Elite Trainer Boxes, amongst others.

Today Pokémon unveiled a brand new type of card, exclusive to the Pokémon Go expansion in the form of Ditto!

Similar to Ditto’s mechanic in the Pokémon video game and anime series, these Ditto are appear hidden behind other Pokémon, as if Ditto had transformed into them.

As first glance a Pokémon card, such as Bidoof looks like any regular card, however the top layer can be peeled away, revealing the true, Ditto card!

For now, it appears rare Ditto will be hiding behind common Pokémon. There’s no evidence yet to suggest rare or holo cards from the expansion will include this mechanic.

Pokemon HOME Adds Pokemon Legends: Arceus Support and More

In other news, the Pokemon Company have just published an update for Pokemon HOME. Version 2.0 of Pokemon HOME Adds Pokemon Legends: Arceus Support and More, adding compatibility for even more Pokémon titles on the Nintendo Switch.

How to identify a Ditto in TCG:

Once Pokémon Go expansions are available, it’s easy to identify whether you will have a Ditto hiding in your deck!

To spot a Ditto, simply look for the tiny “Ditto” icon in the bottom left of the card.

This icon indicates the top layer can be peeled away and removed, revealing the true Ditto card.

Pokémon Community Concerns:

This has raised some concerns within the Pokémon TCG Collectors community on social media regarding how the cards should be kept and whether the removable layer could damage the card in time.

Questions have also been raised as to whether professionally grading them (with or with the top-layer peeled) will be possible.

More information and details surrounding the nature of these new cards will become available once the Pokémon Go expansion has been released.
